What is a Textured Cut?

A textured haircut is popular for men of all ages and works well for all hair types. It tones down volume and helps shape thick hair. For those with thinning or fine hair, it helps create body, which gives the appearance of a fuller head of hair.

How to Do a Textured Haircut Step-by-Step

Step 1

Dampen your hair with the spray bottle. Comb your hair down so it is lying straight.

Step 2

Using your Wahl clipper, attach the #3 (3/8") guide comb.

Step 3

Begin cutting in front of the ears using an upward rocking motion.

Step 4

Work your way around the sides to the back of the head, blending under the rim to the rim of your head as you go (Sections 2 and 3; See infographic below).

Step 5

Use the clipper-over-finger technique to cut the top section of the head. Cutting the top section at a slightly different length can provide more texture for this hairstyle. Cut the bangs last.

Step 6

Use a #5 (5/8") guide comb to blend the shorter sides with the longer top section of the head.
