My clipper pulls hairs instead of cutting. Does this mean I need a new cutting blade?

Try this first - Blade maintenance:

Move the taper lever up and down a few times.

Place one drop of clipper oil in the center of the movable top blade and one drop of oil on each end of the top blade.

Next, add one drop of oil to the heel of the stationary bottom blade on each side. (5 drops of oil total)

Turn clipper on and run to distribute the oil. When oil is evenly distributed, turn clipper off and wipe off excess oil with a soft cloth. If this does not help, please contact Wahl and we will help you further - Call us at 800-729-9245 or email us at techsupport@wahlclipper.com

My clipper does not want to charge - what do I do?

If your clipper does not seem to take a charge, check the following before returning it for repair:

  1. Check outlet operation by plugging in another appliance.
  2. Make sure the outlet is not connected to a switch which turns the power at the outlet off.
  3. Be sure the clipper is properly connected to the recharging transformer, all connections are secure and the switch on the clipper is turned “OFF - 0”.
  4. If your electricity is connected to a master power switch, we suggest the clipper be disconnected from the charger anytime the master switch is off. Leaving the unit plugged into a dead outlet or an unplugged charger will drain the battery.
  5. If clipper does not run and it is completely charged, turn the unit “ON - I” and pinch or push the blades manually. (Oil may have dried out between the blades, so they may be temporarily stuck together).

The charger light is not changing colors - why?

The red indicator light is just that - it indicates that the clipper has been connected to a power source. It will not change colors or go off once the clipper is fully charged. If you need more information, please contact Wahl at techsupport@wahlclipper.com and we will help you.

I have only had my cordless trimmer/clipper for two months and it won't work anymore, or it only works for a few minutes before it stops, is there a problem with my unit?

On any cordless rechargeable product, you must use the unit frequently to keep it operating properly. As stated in the instruction booklet, you should run the trimmer's/clipper's battery completely dead at least once a month, otherwise, if you only use the unit two minutes every day eventually it will work for only two minutes between charges. Thus, to prolong the life of your unit, you should completely discharge the battery at least once a month.

How do I add the guards/guide combs to the blade?

Align guard onto blade then press down where guard number is located until you hear a snap.

How do I take off the guards/guide combs?

From underneath, lift tab up to release from blade.

What is the upward rocking motion technique?

Rocking Motion - When you want to blend from one section to the next, you will need to practice moving the clipper in an upward rocking motion. This motion will leave the hair slightly longer where the clipper pulls away from the scalp, enabling you to blend between the sections and achieve a smooth transition from one length of hair to the next. This technique will enhance the appearance of your haircuts.

What do I need to know before I cut my hair at home?

Combing or Brushing the Hair - Before you cut and from time to time as you cut, be sure to comb the hair and check for the hair’s natural response in order to see how the hair falls into place. Visualizing Your Haircut When you cut hair, you should visualize the head as if it were divided into four sections. Dampening the Hair - Some haircuts work better if you spray the hair lightly with water. The dampness helps you see the natural fall of the hair and makes cutting wavy or curly hair easier.

What are the sections of the head?

When you cut your hair, you should visualize the head as if it were divided into four sections : Section 1 - The neckline Section 2 - Under the rim of the head Section 3 - The Rim or side on the head Section 4 - Top of the head. Using proper techniques when moving from one section to the next will help you blend the sections together for professional looking results.

What is the lever on my clipper and what does it do?

The taper lever adds versatility to your clipper by allowing you to gradually change the closeness of your cut. The lever in the “Up” position is the closest cut and the lever in the “Down” position is the longest cut. Should your blades become jammed with hair, move the taper lever up and down several times. This action will help free up the blades.

How do I remove my blades?

Detachable Blade System - Enables you to quickly change from a standard-width blade for full grooming to a narrow-width blade for detail trimming around a mustache, goatee, or anywhere to define the hair line and clip any stray whiskers. To remove attachment, simply pull top edge of blade away from body unit. To attach, align back tab of attachment head to cavity on the inner edge of trimmer unit and push down on top of blade.

Standard Blade: Unscrew the stationary bottom blade and top blades from the unit. Clean hair from unit and attachment. Replace with new blades and align : If your clipper has a taper lever, position the lever in the close cut position.

1. End of top blade teeth should be approximately 1/32-inch (.64 mm) back from bottom blade.

2. Extreme left-hand tooth of top blade must be covering or to the left of the first small tooth of bottom blade.

3. Extreme right-hand tooth of top blade must be touching the big tooth on the bottom blade.

Dog bathing doesn't need to be difficult. A general rule of thumb, according to ASPCA recommendations, is to bathe your dog at least every three months, increasing the frequency during the hot, summer months. Many breeds and coat styles, however, require more frequent bathing (as do, naturally, mischief-finding, outdoor-loving dogs), while others necessitate fewer baths. Regular bathing will also help keep shedding to a minimum with most such breeds. Remember to use approved dog shampoo, preferably one that also conditions, detangles and moisturizes. Wahl has all of the dog bathing products you need.
