How Long Does It Take to Grow a Beard?

It takes between two and six months to develop a full beard. In general, beards grow around half an inch each month. But, like men, not all beards are created equal. Your age, ethnicity, diet, and testosterone levels all impact beard growth (more about that below).

Here are the Stages of Beard Growth:

1. STUBBLE

2 to 3 Weeks > Getting Prickly? Persevere

A five o’clock shadow? Totally cool. Scratchy facial fuzz? Not so much. The key: keep your eye on the furry prize. Stay strong and resist the urge to trim.

DO keep your face fresh, clean, and moisturized. Exfoliate often. Have patience, growing a thick full beard can take up to six months.

DON’T give up, as the new growth pushes through, a little irritation around the facial hair follicles is normal.

2. PATCHY

5 to 6 Weeks > Patchwork beard?
Be Patient You’ve surpassed stubbly.

Your beard is coming in and could be anywhere from perfect to slightly patchy. (Facial hair does not always grow at the same rate.) If you have any uneven patches – don’t worry, it is normal. Stay strong. You got this!

DO focus on the beard-to-be. Keep up the self-care. Exfoliation stimulates the follicles and will help you get past the unevenness.

DON’T lose sight of the end goal. If the itchiness gets too much; use a brush and a little beard oil to soothe away the temptation to trim.

3. BEARD

8 to 10 Weeks > Get Grooming

You stood strong and let your patchy beard grow around an inch-long. It may be a little unruly in places. So, tool up with the best tool for the job: a Wahl trimmer and shave the top of the cheeks and neck (an inch above your Adam’s apple).

DO start a beard regimen. Wash your face, trim, and moisturize often – because a fresh beard can dry out your skin.

DON’T skip regular bear
