Aka: How Long Should You Go Without a Trim?

We get asked this question a lot. The simple answer is it depends on the length of your hair. Here’s our at-a-glance guide:

Shorter Hair

Every two to three weeks for most shorter hairstyles and every two weeks if you are going for a sharp-looking High & Tight. A style like this might need extra detailing. Don’t leave it over a month – most shorter styles will get out of shape quickly.

Medium Hair

Every four to six weeks. The key is when you own a Wahl hair clipper, regular home hair maintenance is easy – and after a while – you don’t have to check the calendar to know when your hair is ready for its next touch up.

Long Hair

We recommend a trim every six weeks – even if you’re growing it out. It can soon become damaged or messy if left untrimmed

Finally, a word to those leaving their haircut six months or a year. You’ll find your hair will grow shaggy and misshapen. (Hair doesn’t usually grow at equal speed all around.) Plus, regular haircuts will keep your hair healthy.

The only question that remains – what hairstyle should you choose? For ideas, here are our top hairstyles of the year. Once you pick a style you love, make sure it suits you before you trim it with the Wahl® Style Selector.
